Visakhapatnam, October 2 2005
The district administration on Sunday launched a month long campaign named SAFAR for creating awareness on traffic safety. Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector Praveen Prakash expressed concern at the alarming rise in vehicular traffic in the district and called for concerted efforts by all the Government agencies and voluntary organizations to spread awareness. S.Rangaraju, Visakhapatnam MLA II flagged off a mobile exhibition van named SAFAR which will tour the length and breadth of the district.
In Deputy Transport Commissioner, B.Venkateswarlu said that during the campaign they would hold seminars and meetings and also explain the public on traffic safety through audio video presentations, banners, posters, leaflets, FM radio and cinema slides. The Commissioner of Police, VSK Kaumudi said despite shortage of staff, they were trying their best to ensure proper management of traffic in the city. VUDA Chairman PSN Raju released the plan for the proposed traffic park in VUDA Park.
